Thank you for chosing one of our lovely British Shorthair kittens.

Your kitten(s) will have been wormed (at 6, 8 and 12 weeks). He/she will be fully vaccinated. You will also receive a free kitten pack which includes, dry food samples, 6 weeks insurance, food bowls, etc.

Your kitten(s) will require:

  • A cat basket to be collected in.
  • Litter tray (with hood) to be able to go to the toilet indoors
  • Cat Litter to put in the litter tray
  • Scratching posts - vital if you want any furniture left in your house!
  • Food bowls
  • Water bowl
  • Comb/brush to keep their coat smooth and healthy
  • Food
  • We recommend Royal Canin tinned kitten food
  • Royal Canin Dry kitten food - to be left down at all times
  • Any fresh meat or fresh fish

Feeding:

We recommened that you feed your kitten two (or preferably) three meals a day. This is in conjunction with leaving dry food (such as Royal Canin) down all day. They also need a fresh supply of drinking water - especially if they have alot of dry food.

Maintenance:

  • Daily combing/brushing of their coats- especially during moulting season
  • Check their ears, eyes, paws, claws and tail end (this can be done weekly)
  • Your veterinarian should be advised of the newest member(s) of your family - on your first check up ask for:
    • a) Panacur 10% Liquid Wormer for cats and dogs
    • b) Front-Line (flea treatment)

Toys:

As well as buying activity centres/scratching posts, toys, cat-nip filled products, some inexpensive toys that all kitten love are pipe-cleaners and an empty card board box! They will have endless fun!

Early days:

This is a big day, not only for you, but also for your new kitten(s). He/She is on it's own with potentionally no brothers, sisters or other cats to play with or cuddle up to. He/she may be nervous or frightened. We recommend that you:

  • Talk to your kitten and try and reassure him/her.
  • Introduce him/her to one room only at first.
  • Let them get used to that room which has it's litter tray in so they know where their litter tray is. Our kittens are all litter trained but if they do not know where their litter tray is they may become distressed and have an accident in the house. It is vital that you do not show them too much at first - or they could get disorientated and lose their litter tray
  • Place them in their litter tray when you get home as they will probably need to go to the toilet after the journey.
  • Gradually show them another room. It might be best to have their litter tray in the first room and food in the next - ideally not in the same room. For the first day two rooms are fine for a kitten to get used to.
  • Leave the radio and/or light on at night for the kitten so he/she can get used to their new surroundings quicker.
  • Ideally if you are going to be out for alot of the day - i.e. you both work, we recommen you take two kittens to keep each other company.
